Well it is that time of year again. All of my males except two have dropped about 80% of their trains. Figures right when two of the hens start laying again. Gonna throw the eggs in the bator just in case. Any one elses males dropping as well.

I know the person i get my babies from have males dropping their train this time of year and some of their hens have just started laying, i had a male that passed away and his train would be all but gone by now.
I think it has something to do with when they hatched, if they hatched early in the season they would drop their train early, just what i think

OK...new to peafowl here. Why do they drop their trains? How long does it take for them to regrow? How old is a male before his train grows out all the way? Thanks for bearing with me.

They drop their trains at the end of their breeding season (usually sometime between April and August). This is the only time the males are fertile, so when they lose their fertility they no longer need the train to show off to the ladies. As soon as they drop their train it begins to regrow, at the pace of a couple millimeters a day until the next spring (roughly 9 months). Most males will have a full train by 3 years, sometimes by 4 years old. Depending, we believe, on climate, some males may have eye-feathers and a small train starting at 2 years old.

Snowie dropped 3 yesterday and tonight their was about 10 on the ground. They're beutiful to bring into the house but am sad not see the beautiful display. Well I guess Christmas will come for us in the Spring, again. I sure have enjoyed all the company that have stopped to see the peacocks since I got them. This morning a friend brought his granddaughter out to see them. None would display so they returned this afternoon, still no luck. My white hen was sitting on the ground when I went to check them in the dark instead of on the perch. I was hoping she was laying, but as I left the pen she perched,
