I live in the dessert and for the past 5 years have had a male and female Mallard duck come in my Koi pond every March and stay for around 4 months. They stay all day and leave at night. They mate here but never any eggs. Every year when they first get here they spend a lot of time looking around for I guess a place to nest but I've never had eggs here. Last Tues. she dropped three eggs, two in the pond in a shallow area and one where she sleeps all day on some plants. I freaked out about the ones in the cold water so took them out and put them in a tub on a heating mat and the one on the plants since she left it alone all night I put it in there too. Should I have done that? Would she of got the ones in the pond? Did I freak out to soon? Now I'm turning the eggs about 7 times a day and have a bowl of water in with them in their heated tote. Did I do okay? I have a new nesting box for her and am trying to get her to fine it by moving her bowl of seed closer every day. Is there anything else I can do to get her to the nesting box?? WOW, this is long sorry!!!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Not so sure you should be bothering with those duck eggs on a heating mat. There is a bit more to incubating than that.
Thanks for getting back to me! A few articles I read said it do that at long as it's at 98 degrees. Never done this before and next week I'll do the flashlight thing and see it they're alive. Don't want to put the expense into a incubator if they are not alive.
