i was sold a pair of "mallard" ducklings along with a pekin. i have read on a forum somewhere that if there is a second stripe under the eye that it is really a rouen and wont be able to fly but a mallard has a single stripe. is there any truth to this? i would prefer to have rouens anyway

Can you post pictures? One good way to go about it is look at pictures of rouen babies and pictures of mallard babies and compare yours to both. That's what I did with my rouens.

Rouens are nice, friendly ducks, and pretty, too!

Those look just like my rouen... then again I was told it was a rouen by a feed store so I guess that's not 100% either. It does have the two stripes though. Looks like I have the opposite of you- two pekins and a rouen. This is my first rouen, but I can tell you that the personality of mine so far is awesome! He's the only one that will just sit on my lap and snuggle

Mallard ducklings have one stripe and a small dot on their cheeks, Those little critters have two lines, so I would say they are rouen.

Very cute by the way

thanks everyone, thats such a relief. that makes 2 less wings for me to clip!

it looks to me like they are mallards afterall now that they are grown so the 2 stripe thing isnt very accurate.they are still half the size of the pekin and some cayugas i just got a few weeks ago are already larger than they are.
