Can mallards lay consistently with a good quality feed? I feed Nutrena All Flock 18% and they LOVE IT!
I've fed it to them since they were about 2 weeks old.
I know they are a wil breed, but how often do they lay? Will they only lay in the spring?
My 4 girls are now about 3 months old.
They are super cute!

The biggest one with the blue on her wing is Mallie. She's my favorite of the 4 Mallards.

I have currently 4 mallards, we had 7 but a bald eagle took out two this winter and we recently lost one to a fisher. One of my hens is sitting on about 17 eggs :). I also have a pekin, pekin/rouen mix, 2 rouen ducklings, and 3 mixed ducklings ( dad is my pekin/rouen mix and moms were one of my mallard hens and my pekin. ).

Here is a couple of the mallard with my pekin

The small chocolaty colored duckling is the mallard/pekin/rouen mix the other two are pekin/pekin/rouen mix.

From the winter

Last summer before we lost some of our girls.

They only lay in the spring. Sometimes they will lay two clutches, but if you want eggs they are not going to provide many.

Walt, a may have an anomaly then... My mallard, Bella, started laying eggs last fall. She had laid an egg every day since then except one - she outlays every one of my chickens. She lays beautiful, great big eggs, and even lays them in one of my chicken's nests, so they stay nice and clean.
