MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

From what I've been told here (I'm new here, myself), the more you handle them, the more they get used to your attention. Peepers was a day old when she wandered into my life. And she was attached to me from day 1. NOW, she's exhibiting different behavior. But, she's 6 weeks old now and, apparently, that's normal. But, when she was younger, she was very attached to me. I'm hoping that comes back around after she goes through this teenaged rebellious stage. LOL

ive been giving donald mealworms to make him like me more and he is in the chicken coop with a bit of chicken wire seperating him from the other hens and they seem to like him so when do u think i should let him go with them

I've been away on vacation since Saturday. DH took a pic of the ducks for me - I can't believe how different Peepers looks already! She looks so much older and it hasn't been a week yet. ...That's Raspberry in the back. He's almost lost all his downy fluff off his head now.

All you can do it try putting them together, if the hens start pecking on the duckling then you'll know to separate it from them. and if the duckling turns out to be a drake you'll not want him in with them anyway because he'll want to mate with them and that a death sentence for a chicken. Anatomy's totally different. I'd try and find a friend of the duckie persuasion for Donald, they do so much better with one of their own.

Hi everyone

I am new to this, and to keeping ducks. We rescued 5 tiny ducklings on Friday (i am guessing theywould have been about a week old) and i would love some of your knowledge on how to raise them.

Unfortunately last night we lost the smallest one. I am now worried that we might lose another, although is eating and drinking it doesn’t appear to be growing as fast as the other 3. Is this normal to have one that doesn’t develop as fast as the others? It is not like its not able to get to the food or water it manages to push its way through and is not being chased off by the others.

They are the funniest of little things and love to have a lukewarm bath (obviously supervised) the larger 3 are now swimming underwater going from one end of the bath to the other. The kids think its great to watch.

I will upload some pictures tonight so you can have a look.
