Mama Duck Attacked!!

I know how you all feel! I'm like a mama hen! Always checking on the eggs all day long! Nine left and no sign of any movement yet! This weekend *should* be 28 days but we're not *exactly* sure about that. One egg looks funky like it's not viable but it's not leaking so I'm keeping it for now. I know they're not all viable since I still got the 'stink' in the aquarium! Surprise they aren't just hard boiled instead of rotting after cooking for almost two weeks in 100+ temps! SHEESH.

You all will be the first to know if something happens...pix and all. I am SO hoping to get at LEAST one or two ducks out of this! More would be even better!!!

Ok a few questions!

Is this a good sign of a duck pecking his way out??? I haven't seen the egg move tho.

This is a rotten egg, right?

Yes, it is pipping. It may take up to 24 hours to zip the egg open before it comes out. I'm so glad that you did give it a try. Forgot to mention you need to get the humidity way up at this point so they don't get shrink wrapped to stuck to the egg shell. So sponges full of water need to go it. You can also have the towel moist with warm water. Oh the eggs don't always move a lot.

Isn't it wonderful to watch nature taking its course. You may have lost your momma duck, but you rescued her babies. Didn't I tell you it is not that hard to incubate eggs. I know it was a steep learning curve for you and it all sounded to confusing. I've got the feeling you may be investing into an incubator down the road. It is quite addicting.

That's great!!!!! I've been following along but had nothing to contribute since I have just started with chickens and have no ducks at all.

I'm just so tickled you went for it and now you have a little duckling!!

Hurray!!!

Also, have patience during the process. They're attached to a little egg sack that can give them two-three days energy through the process. There is a good 'Sticky' at the top of the incubating and hatching thread that can help answer worrisome hatching questions along the way.

Thanks everyone for helping me with this. I just realized I need to re-read the stuff on hatching and all that post pipping stuff! Thanks for the *sticky* tip!
