Mama Duck Attacked!!

Close. Sehr Gut
My husband also only learned enough to get around and to order food. He didn't have to learn it, he had me.

Yes I have candled them and put a pix of one of them a few posts back and asked if it was viable because it looked nasty. The ones with 'soup' inside ... I tossed. Doesn't take a pro to figure out that ain't a duck in there! There are still four eggs in the incubator including the one that seems good.

I'll post more pix tomorrow here but I am pretty sure they are not good eggs.

No one watched the birth of baby duck #4 that I put on youtube????

I went way back and not sure which ones. Perhaps you can candle the last remaining ones just to get another look. How are the other 4 cuties? Are they all together now?

I did. Can you imaging giving birth to yourself? That was hard work. What always amazes me is how fast they are on their feet hopping around.

Mamacat, Just watched the video of #4....Didn't realize what work it was and how much they are 'stuffed' into the egg. So interesting - I've been soaking up your journey. Have a call duck sitting on eggs now, so I'm trying to get educated before they come. I bet it's hard to leave them alone. This has been a great story with a happy ending!

I just watched it with my 13 year old son. Not much impresses him these days but he thought that was the coolest thing. He's still talking about how it was stuffed in there and reminded him of one of those little rubbery type toys that you get in the machines at the grocery store. You add water to them and they expand all of a sudden

He also quite enjoyed hearing you tell the duck to push and it pushing

I was reading back through the thread from the start and when I read this I thought of something that happened. When I was first trying to get the aquarium set up and was fiddling with the heat lamp and all, one time I walked in to check on it and the temp was 111 degrees!!!! I was SURE I hard boiled every single egg!!! I took off the glass fast and started blowing and fanning into the aquarium until I got it down to 100 degrees. Thank God I still got living ducks!!! A real miracle!

Strong little buggers I would say. They were meant to hatch so you can get over the loss of their mom. They will bring you joy and tons of poo.

Can't wait for my 17 to hatch. Already sweating from all the upcoming work. I will keep you posted on their hatch. Today it is so cold out here. Barely made it up to 43 degrees and mid twenties are expected tonight. We are more then 20 degrees below normal. Could not let my now 4 week old ducks out for the day, since they don't have all their feathers yet. They were quite unhappy in their heated duck house. I gave them plenty of peas to make them happier. I've also decided to let them out several times for about 10 minutes each. They were running like dogs in circles and it was really fun to watch them. They did not like to go back in but they did follow. The weather will remain that cold for the next couple of days so I will have to play the in and out game with them. We even had snow today, which freaked them out. They had no clue on what was coming down.
