Ursuline Chick
Rest in Peace 1957-2024
We had a bantam hen, a bantam rooster (long story) and 8 full size adult hens. The bantam hen disappeared and weeks later I found her under my house with 15 live chicks and 1 dud egg. We moved them to our usual broody set up (coop and run for the broody and chicks only, see no touch). They are doing fine. While they were under the house I have no Idea what they were eating and there is an area where water pools, so I guess that is where they were drinking. They are getting big and Momma is still caring for them, but with 15 they don't all fit under Mom at night. We are in a warm area so they are fine. We have always hatched with a broody hen and I highly recommend it over an incubator. Good luck with your Mom and chicks. If you wish to continue to hatch with a broody, now would be a great time to build an outside broody set up. Let me know if you would like to know how we have done ours.
