Mama has hatched babies!!!

We had a bantam hen, a bantam rooster (long story) and 8 full size adult hens. The bantam hen disappeared and weeks later I found her under my house with 15 live chicks and 1 dud egg. We moved them to our usual broody set up (coop and run for the broody and chicks only, see no touch). They are doing fine. While they were under the house I have no Idea what they were eating and there is an area where water pools, so I guess that is where they were drinking. They are getting big and Momma is still caring for them, but with 15 they don't all fit under Mom at night. We are in a warm area so they are fine. We have always hatched with a broody hen and I highly recommend it over an incubator. Good luck with your Mom and chicks. If you wish to continue to hatch with a broody, now would be a great time to build an outside broody set up. Let me know if you would like to know how we have done ours.

Thank you it makes complete sense. I wasn't thinking, i defintily won't give the chickie anymore tonight!! but i will still get up to check on her. Thank you again!!!

Let me try to sketch out what we have and explain it, in the next few days when I have a chance. It works great for us. You can see if it will work for you or if you want to make changes for whatever reason. I'll be happy to help.

Here, in New Orleans we are in the middle of Jazz Fest and @Hayden Goseek (my dear husband) is off of work for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So we are trying to plan out what stage we will be at, on which day, at what time. It is an exhausting, expensive 3 days. And worth it all. He worked last weekend so we missed last weekend. When we were younger we used to take the whole time off and throw parties, etc. We used to attend everyday and it was great fun. If you don't know about it, you can get an idea by looking on the net for New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival 2022. Check out the music and check out the food. Hell, check it all out. It makes for a truly wonderful, albeit expensive vacation.
So I plan to work on your plans between the fest and sleep this weekend. :th

That is awesome 😂 minus the expensive part it most certainintly sounds worth it though!!! I will definitly have to look into it and talk to my honey about it although i doubt it will be this year that we attend but i do love partys and i do love jazz!!! And there is no rush at all!!!!! I appreciate you for taking the time to do it at all!!! its definitly something that can be done after you guys festival it up :) have a good weekend to you both!!!!

Thank you, we have Jazz Fest every year. It is always the last weekend of April and the first Weekend of May. When you look at how many musicians you have to choose from each day, the entrance fee isn't that bad. If you buy tickets way early, like in Feb. you save some money and if you don't mind driving a bit in the morning and evening you can get a hotel room for somewhat of a reasonable price.
Then there is alway French Quarter Fest, a mini version of Jazz fest and it's free to go to, So for that all you need is a hotel room and money for food and stuff you may want.
Almost as good, especially if you are into jazz.
