Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

It's been mad, I tell ya, mad!! For example, we got home yesterday from a few days in Sheridan. We unpacked, I washed the dirty clothes, we repacked, and we leave this morning for 3 days in Billings for some medical stuff for Ken. Well, at least this trip is for us! This Grand Master stuff ain't for sissies!

Looks good, I used 2 x 4's when I first set mine up to raise it. You will have to add another piece of wood as they get bigger. Just on one side might be good, so they can decide where they want to be. If you do add another piece, make sure you nail it to the other one, so it doesn't fall on them.
I love how everyone finds new & creative ways to raise & lower their heating pads....

I needed to make a temporary 2nd MHP. Something quick & easy. I attached some of our son's Lego Duplo blocks. When I needed more height, I just snapped on some more blocks.

Just asking because I want to satisfy my own curiosity. Has anyone here in this thread had an actual person that you know or report that you can verify, as opposed to the my next door neighbors mama's 2nd cousin 3 times removed knew a guy, experience ANY fire related incidents resulting from using a heat pad for this type of application?
As expected, Spring has brought about all the how to brood your chicks posts and it's without fail anytime I mention the MHP that someone must try me and about what a "horrible fire hazard" this is and how they should" never be used in such a way" yet not once has anyone provided me an actual verifiable report of it being problematic. That of courses in contrast to the multiple very well confirmed reports of fires caused by heat lamps that have come out each and every year

I suppose there could be an electrical fire from a heating pad (from possible damaged cords or extension cords), but I haven't heard of any. Heat lamps are a far greater concern b/c of falling, breaking, dust, etc. in addition to possible electrical problems.

Honeys......I'm HO-OME! Thanks for holding down the fort, my stalwart best buddies. Way too much has happened in the last weeks to go into it all, but suffice it to say that most of it involves non-stop traveling!
Welcome back. Nice to see you on BYC.

Yeah you did, but then your heart was broken. Took time to start mending. I didn't think you were doing as much of the Travelling Mason's Show this winter.

Can't help it, I'm a worrier when it comes to my MIA friends!

I didn't think we'd have this much activity this winter, but all of those empty spots on the calendar got filled quickly enough. The trip to Rapid City was one of those that was pre-planned because the Conference of Grand Masters happens every year in February. You might remember that we had our flights and hotels for the one in Madison, Wisconsin a couple of years ago and I had my heart attack the night before we were to fly out. Missed that one. Got to the one in Omaha and then missed last year's in Indianapolis because we both had Influenza A. So we had to go to this one no matter what! There are Grand Masters from all over the world. And man, was it cold!! I quickly remembered why we moved away from South Dakota! i literally wore my jeans under my formal when we went out to dinner. I really did! Folks got a kick out of that but I was a little warmer than the other other ladies in their gowns!

Oh, I also got to do something very special! They had the Bible opened to the passage Masons use for their Master Mason's degree, but it wasn't just any Bible - it was the actual Bible that George Washington used for his Master Mason's degree. And I got to hold it! Yes I did!! I was terrified that I was going to drop it! I had just got to the venue from our hotel and they were "changing the guard" on it, so to speak. Anyway, the curator asked me if I'd like to hold it for a photo. Would I??? A couple of days later Ken also got to hold it. They let a few people do that, and I was thrilled to be one of them. I ordered a perfect replica for Ken and plan to present it to him at his Grand Lodge when he installs the new Grand Master for the year. It's complete write down to the handwritten notes the President had in his.

We're putting off my back stuff until Ken is squared away. He's been so sick the last few weeks, and at first I thought it was just stress. But it's more than than that, and we are both at the point where we know it. So we'll get it checked out - could be nothing more than a flare up of his Sarcoidosis. He has that in his lungs, liver, spleen, parotid glands, eyelids, and joints, so it wouldn't surprise either of us. If so, then a course of steroids should control it.
