Same thread as recommended above - but with a twist - on a different page....use sandpaper (grit side out) for the bottom and the sticky part of a bandaid over the top!

Unfortunately this is what I discovered this afternoon Don't understand since all was well yesterday (pics were taken Sat). It sometimes walks on it's 'forearm' but will also walk normal. The toes will flex out but curls inward also. When it 'sits' up, ends up on it's side (right more than left) and has a problem getting up. Crop was empty this afternoon so I supervised it's eating & drinking, it would get pushed/bumped out of the way. Then it got up & walked normally under the MHP? I tried separating it from the rest, it really stressed out so I put it back, ate more then went under the MHP. I'm stumped as to what the problem is....Splayed? Will post in Emergency/Disease/Injuries....

Vitamins and a second feeder. He's got a vitamin deficiency.

Will be putting "shoes" on this guy (?) today, it's already on TSC Vitamin Electrolyte Packet & Corid (a tiny one died overnight, breeder said as a precaution). I have Save A Chick but just giving the vitamin & Corid mixed together right now. I really don't think the Corid is necessary but doing as told by their owner.

1. Should I continue with Vitamin/Electrolyte? Corid?
2. Should I do Save A Chick also? Add to the vitamin & Corid or separate?
3. Assuming ok for the rest to drink?
4. Was going to pick up PolyVisol less iron today, or should I just continue as doing? How much to give, a drop?

Corid should not be used in combination with multivitamins. It's active ingredient is a thiamine blocker. The multivitamins contain thiamine. It's counter productive. Discontinue the corid. Focus on the multivitamins. The TSC vitamin electrolytes is probably identical to Sav-A-Chick. All the chicks should have the electrolyte vitamin water. PolyViSol is good for providing a direct boost to individuals. A small chick only needs a drop or two directly in the beak. Be careful not to drown the chick.

Corin stopped, what upsets me is the breeder & worker at Dels/TSC told me it was ok to combine. I never had any problems raising chicks but looks like the "good times" are over.

The Chick Shoes worked, toes straightened out but it still can't keep itself upright. Breeder (viewing the pics) said she thinks it's a slipped tendon, she said to tape it's leg, went out to get some VetWrap. Separated it from the rest, it won't eat so I put it back with the brood & it eats. Supervise it's eating then return it to it's box with light & feather duster. Really don't have much hope but will continue trying.

If it were my Chick, it would go to the Vet!

Oh learned today I can't get PolyVisol vitamins without iron plus it's no longer "over the counter".

For a slipped tendon, you have to get that tendon popped back into place. Pull the leg straight back and manipulate the tendon back into it's grooved joint. Sometimes, if the hen is a bit deficient in thiamine the day the egg is laid, the groove that holds the tendon in place doesn't form properly. In those cases, nothing can be done.

Here in Oregon I just went to Target in the vitamins and supplements area and the non-iron Poly vi sol, sold under the Enfamil brand (baby products) (sp?) it was sitting right there on the shelf ... a month ago. Soon here though they're restricting all antibiotics in farm stores (have to have a vet prescription, wonder how many chicks and birds will die as a result), so maybe it's a state thing?!?! It's on amazon.com-- might be worth it to order if you can to add to the medicine cabinet. Not sure if nutridrench has the same substance or not.

Poor baby! I'm glad its toes straightened- hopefully that's at least some physical relief. I always think of a swollen joint and a leg stuck out to the side for a slipped tendon, but I haven't seen one up close and personal. I hear you on wanting it to go to the vet. At least it's still eating. Thank you for the update and please, keep us posted!
