If they are cold and piling to get warm, the pile is in motion as the outer chicks try to get to the bottom of the pile to warm up. It looks like your chicks are just hanging out and resting.
Quiet chicks are happy chicks.

That is so very true. Being a parent, even a chick parent is rife with doubt and concern, no matter how much you read.
