Man up the street, sort of threatening me....what should I do?

Yup yup, I feel yer pain. A lot of things just don't seem fair. But don't think that barking dogs are actually never cited. I do doberman rescue, and we've gotten at least a coupla dogs into rescue because their former owners got into trouble with the dogs barking too much to suit the neighbors.

Hang in there, and let us know what happens next!

Oh, edited to add -- I just saw your post about the other neighbors LIKING the sound of the roo. Here's something else you should do: get brief WRITTEN NOTES from the neighbors who DO like the roo. Written, signed, dated. That will give you more ammunition if the guy decides to take his complaint any further. Just a thought!

Honestly, Im hoping that I have nothing to report, but will-do. Thanks again for all of your inputs, even those trying to help me to see the "other side" which I have been on for years.

You say 'sparring '? Do you mean he used threatening words or tone of voice ? I'd file a report . The way this world is going, he could flip off the deep end one day, and go goofy.

Don't place your self or your animals in harm's way.

Wow, For the guy to show up with a sack to put your rooster in was threat enough. File a report. Dont buy a gun or use a gun. Post your property. Be vigilant. Send him a professional letter and copy it your local police station so they know whats up. Explain that you felt threatened and that you are with in your rights to have these birds. A report, a letter and proper postings is all you can do until the law is broken further. He violated the law with his threat to take your rooster. Be sure to keep your birds on your property.
If you want your rights protected try not to break the law or show that you are unreasonable. A gun even a BB gun will put you on the wrong side of the law.
He seems to already be unreasonable. Its one thing to knock on your door and say you would like to talk about the rooster crowing in the morning. It is another thing altogether to come and demand you turn over your pet/live stock because he is unpleased. As no law has been broken by you and he has just broken the law with the threat to take your pet/live stock. It is important not to esculate this issue. Record, document and report. If you dont have a camara get one. Good luck!

Did anyone think the guy might work an odd shift and his lunch was in the bag?

My flock is 100 feet from my bedroom, I cannot hear them, but I have a well built coop ,,a neighbor a few hundred feet away should not hear them. I don't want to hear my own.

For the life of me I cannot understand the attitude that no matter what "chickie" stays,,,saying that tells me that the OP is going to be standoffish and defensive about anything to do with the bird.

3PM on a Saturday, the guy doing the talking did not have the grocery bag with handles (pretty large lunch) it was the younger man walking with him.
You cant believe me saying my beloved pet stays no matter what? I guess you never loved something like I love Chickie.

If anyone threatened or wanted to take any of my dear chickens, i would fight like a mother bear. They are all my children and i love them dearly.

If someone went to someone's door and wanted to take their chihuahua because it was barking too much, wouldn't that seem outrageous? Stand firm and keep your bird. If you are zoned to have him, then that should be the end of it. Let that dude take his bag and find lunch elsewhere.

People are jumping to conclusions again. Lobzi has never said that the guy actually threatened to take the bird. We don't know if he did or didn't. We only know that he was carrying a bag -- and there are many innocent reasons why someone might be doing that.

In any case, she has done what she needs to do for now.
