Managing Coccidiosis Outbreak - Update and Seeding Advice

Bleach does not kill coccidia, you have to use amonia. Slow down, take a deep breath, and read what ozchickwn said again, it is very informative. Sulmet is an antibiotic, yes, but it is a sulfa drug that you use as a coccidiostat (may be wrong term), so please remember you ARE NOT dealing with bacteria, cocci is a protazoa. Treat them and watch them. The ones that live should be immune to that particular strain for life, but during times of extreme stress may require some assistance due to an imbalance of cocci in their digestive tract. Make sure that they only have medicated water now and then after treatment give them the probiotics and such to help get their systematically back up and running.

Don't scrub anything out with bleach. When cleaning a brooder or a pen, just remove any loose material, then scrub out with soap or detergent and water. Rinse well. Dry in the sun if you can. That's all you need. Chickens do not need sterile conditions. In fact it's bad for them. I would only go to chemical disinfectants if there was a problem with a bacterial or viral infection that you needed to stop. Coccidiosis, as stated by nickie, is neither. It's a normal part of the poultry environment. Good basic husbandry and hygiene is what you want.
