How Old Are the chicks?

They are four weeks and one day old. I posted a question about 2 weeks ago asking how long broody hens care for their young. The answers I got ranged from 3-6 weeks.

Yup, that sounds right...my hens usually stay with their chicks anywhere from 4-7 weeks...all depends on the hen and the conditions though. Usually the hen will start laying pretty soon after abandoning the chicks.

I just locked everyone in the coop for the night. Dottie jumped up onto the high roost bar, rather than bedding down with the peeps in the broody box. I think that means it's really "official."
