Is it a good idea to clip the wings on the adult Whiting chickens to keep them from flying over a 6

Is it a good idea to clip the wings on the adult Whiting chickens to keep them from flying over a 6 foot fence?
 
Clip one wing if you are having troubles keeping them where they belong. Only clip both if absolutely necessary. With both clipped they will drop like rocks and have troubles getting on roosts, and you may see leg injuries. One wing should keep them in.

Okay. They are just new so when do you suggest we clip their wing(s)
 
Personally, I would advise enclosing the run over the top as predators also do not have any trouble with a 6 foot fence.
Thanks, Last year we did have trouble with coons but our fenced in area is almost to big of an area to cover. Don't know how to keep them out?
 
Besides keeping your hens in the fenced area, perhaps you need an electric fence to discourage raccoons from climbing it.

I have a hen who is an adult. We clipped both of her wings and she still gets out! She has a very light body....Sometimes i think it depends on breed.
