I had to bring a hen into my kitchen for hospice care. Vet said the infection would take her in a few days, but to separate her from the rest to keep them out of danger. He mentioned that I could bring her in to office or buy a hatchet if I did not want to see her suffer. She was only in the dog crate from Thursday afternoon until Sunday evening, but it seemed a very long time for me and my family. I know one member who did similar but wondered about others' choices. Thanks

I would have culled her asap. I would never keep a sick chicken in my house. They can transmit diseases to people like e coli and salmonella. Unfortunately culling is a part of keeping chickens.

If the vet said there was no chance of recovery, I would have had them euthanize her at the office. Less stress on you and her.

I don't doctor sick birds, after a first experience similar to yours, I euthanize.
