Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

Pics
3 are hatched now, 5 more are pipped. 1 is not and it didn't look good when I candled it...I think it died in the shell quite a while ago...it's weird looking.
I'll post more pics when these ones dry out some. They are adorable!

5 are out now and the 6th is working on zipping....7 and 8 are slower, but did pip later too. I just set up a 2nd brooder box since my first batch is now 3 weeks old and they look like GIANTS compared to these new babies! I hope my Aussies hatch some babies soon, I'd put one of them in the brooder with these to help show them how to eat for a day or two. I'm so happy they are hatching...Thank you Aubrey for all the help and advice! You saved the day!

Best photo I took today- 5 newly hatched Mandarins!

I hope the other 3 make it out tonight or tomorrow!

2 more hatched this morning! They went from a few pips to fully hatched in 1/2 hour! Now there are 7 of them still in the incubator- I want to move them into the brooder box in a few hours- but the 2 newest ones are still a bit wet and shaky, not as fluffed out or big looking as the ones who hatched yesterday. Plus the last egg (8th) is pipped and still alive but not zipped yet. Do I move all 7, or just the 5 from yesterday or do I wait til tomorrow for all of them?

We leave them in the incubator for about 24 hours then place them in the brooder. So if they hatch at different times I would take them out accordingly.

Thanks!
yep- moved the 5 oldest ones in to the brooder, 2 still in the incubator, and 1 egg still waiting to hatch. the 5 seem calmer than our 1st batch who were hatched by their mama...these 5 are sitting in their food dish and just look up at me when I talk to them. Maybe tomorrow they'll be hopping around. I did trim their little nails. Wow are they tiny! I'll move the 2 newest ones into the brooder tomorrow, and hopefully will have #8 hatched then too!
