Sky is doing great, still super skittish but Sky has improved from the first day, and loves the company of the call duckling in there. Everyday is a blessing to see Sky's little face.
(I try to refrain from using his or her bc i have no idea what Sky's gender is)

I had a mandarin hen nest on tne ground under a large aframe structure i had in my aviary! It was open at both ends! Her favorite nest box was occupied by a woodie hen so she nest on tne ground instead!

yes i live in the UK he has been breeding them and other waterfowl for 30 years

You guys over there are lucky. Tall have so many types of birds we don't like black , ginger,silver,blonde,pied mandies and steelers eiders,torrent ducks, all 4 of the streamer ducks, blue ducks etc etc

They like enclosed nest boxes. They are cavity nesters, so if you convert those with just a small opening for them to get in, they may use them if that's the only option they have. If they don't find a good nest site, they may lay eggs wherever on the ground and not set them.

They do not actually have them for sale if you look at the for sale page. If they did have them I am sure others would have them by now.

when i emailed them they said they had a very close gentic pool for the blonde mandsrins and were working on getting more blonde from the uk

Importing costs a lot of money and I think the birds have to stay in a quarantine for a couple weeks too.

I made a really nice nesting box for them, but they still prefer the older one I got them.
