Manna Pro Oyster Shell

Is your use rate with using layer feed which is about 4% calcium? And how large is a fairly large flock (30 birds or 10)? With 30+ layers using flock raiser (1% calcium) I think I went through 50# in just over a year.

I never thought about brand because they are in those big brown bags. But I think mine also might be pacific pearl.

I have a flock of 25 going on thirty soon

I will say, the other type seems it would be more readily broken down and absorbed, as it's form seems to be that of shell that has been processed and formed to be easily water soluble. IDK?

If you have a Murdoch look like they sale pacific pearl.
Anyone know why the other brands look like dry wall?

I currently have Naturewise Oyster Shell for calcium supplementation. It does not look like natural shell, but instead looks like small chunks of calcium rock. The ingredients read: oyster shell flour, calcium carbonate. It is obvious that they take the two powders, form them into larger blocks or sheets and then break them up into appropriate sized chunks. Or as you call them, dry wall.

Other than the fact that whole shell would take longer to break down and get absorbed into the body, I'm not sure what other difference you would find. It is analogous to feeding your birds whole grains vs. ground grains formed into pellets. The ground grains break down and are absorbed more easily.

Does anyone know if there is any effective difference between feeding oyster shell, calcium carbonate rock, or broken-up egg shells for calcium supplementation?
