Maple's kitten adventures...

Doesn't look like momma is giving him any attention either. Not a good sign. Momma kitties know things we do not.

Yep.. He looks like how my sick kitten did before he passed away... momma kitty knew and focused on the other 2 kittens.... and i tried to save him..vets daily for sub-q fluid and bottle feeding... finally the vet said hes starting to suffer he needs to be put down.

remember, baby kittens need colostrum - if she's not nursing mom, you need to get kitten colostrum replacer first before kitten milk replacer. if it's a hernia though, she really probably needs surgery or she won't make it. =/ if surgery is out of the question, unfortunately the kindest thing for her might be euthanasia

i really recommend having a vet take a look in person, it's difficult to tell from photos, but given her behavior and the mother's behavior, i think there's something wrong.

Also the colostrum needs to be in the first few hours of life for it to do what it is supposed to do.

I agree with Redhen. Talk to the girls and prepare them for the worst.

I noticed that too. You can always try but I agree that you shouldn't be surprised if #1 doesn't make it. Thank goodness that poor kitty wasn't forced to have them out in the weather.

i just had my feral cat gave birth on march 21 to 6 kittens. she was hanging around me n my hubby. she was looking for a place to have them.one night spend the night in the sun room with our cats n dogs. one night we put out a cat carrier outside near the back door. the next morning when my hubby let the dogs out he heard my kittens noises. he lock the door on her. while i set a wire cage chicken [ferret cage] with pooper n food and water in it outside. she took care of them. when i place her into the cage i took of the cover of the carrier. i found out she had 4 kittens all ready. i cover the ferret cage with a heavy cloth moving blanket. left her be for 12 hours. the next day i check on them and she eat n drink and change the blanket so i am maintain the pooper n food n water every 12 hours. on 5 day i let her out for 30minuts 2x day on the 7 day when i let her out. she follow me to the chicken coop. this time i forgot to call her back when walk back to the house. i was PO. she was gone for 9 hours when the kittens should have eating every
2 hours at 7pm i decide that i need to start feeding them n bring them into my house. i call around and noone had goat milk or KMR so i end up feeding them 2 1/2 mm of water n human milk. until moring. guess who show up at 10pm the mommy . but was i mad n relief she will not be let out of the cage again until i moved them into the sunroom.

kitten will nursing on mom for 4week then at 5week start feeding your mommy cat wet kitten dry cat food. she will teach the kitten to eat wet food by 8week they should eat dry kitten food o the age of year old.

keep your mommy kitten cat in a quiet area or she will move them into a quiet area her self. if posible could u put them in a bathroom or a big cage.

ok, so I went got perki-lac...what the farm store had and nearest store to me.

I get back and there is kitten 3...similar in color as kitten 1 and nursing and healthy. Kitten 1 is being a bit more active. I got the bottle ready and gave her a few drops on her tongue. Put her back in with mama and mama lapped up the stuff that spilled on kittens cheeks. I then held baby 1 to a teat and she took to it but not too strong but she took to it. Some time passed and I gave her some more of the bottle and she really went after it this time. I then put her back with mama.

I noticed that the orange one and does have a few dark patches...would go off her teat and nock the other two off thier teat. So as I held baby 1 up to her teat I had my daughter move the orange one if she was getting too close. I've given mama baby dry kitten food as someone on here suggested mama needs the extra nutrients. Soon as she heard the bag rattle...she jumped out and had a few bites and a little to drink and then got back in the box and cleaned her babies.

So do you think every 3 or so hours I should try to get baby 1 to mama's teat and see if she'll suckle and if it's hard for her give her a few more drops of the replacement?
