I bought two pullets and was told they were Maran's, well as you can tell this is far from a pullet but is it a Maran? He does have white legs, but if so what type? All the Maran's I have seen look nothing like him.
Yes that's definitely a Cuckoo Maran rooster. We had one which looked exactly like him. Very nice, good sized birds. The hens will be much darker in color. (If you consider him a grey color, the hens will be a black color)
One of our Cuckoo Maran roosters. "Captain Crunch" (Unfortunately he was predator food a couple weeks ago, RIP Captain Crunch.)
Our other Cuckoo Maran rooster. "Mr. Cuckoo" (Sadly we found him dead a few days ago in our chicken run, RIP Mr. Cuckoo.) (Ignore the guineas in the picture please)
One of our Cuckoo Maran hens.
Actually, all of our Cuckoo Marans have been eaten off. The price we pay for letting our birds free-range I guess. We will definitely be ordering more though. They're such big birds, and pretty too.
RIP Captain Crunch and Mr. Cuckoo. You two will be missed.
Thanks and sorry to hear about your loss, my roo is named "lucky" and my husband named him...the little girl that came w/ him I think is a barred rock (was told both maran), she is tiny and not nearly as dark as your hen, if I have a picture I will attach it. But Lucky so are is a great rooster, we free range too and have been very fortunate, 2 years 1 loss to a goat accident!
