Maran x Polish mix - Splash Hen or Roo?

Our Polish hens hid their eggs from my boyfriend and I and *surprise* hatched three adorable splash chicks. When they were fresh, we did the handhold test and thought all were hens because they all calmed so quickly. Welp, it's been 7 weeks exactly and we're starting to think this might be a roo. Our BCM roo is amazing and we're nervous about whether we should isolate this little one in case some aggression starts to develop. We would love to know your thoughts!

Agree, he’s a cockerel. Can’t help with behaviour though, sorry. I’d have thought he’d just stay submissive and quiet, as most cockerels do when there’s already a guy in charge. And I’m not sure a hand hold test is a very accurate way to sex chicks, I’ve never heard of it and can’t understand how it would work. It seems more trustworthy to wait until they’re the appropriate age then sex them.

The hand held test??? That's one I've not heard of, and I can see how it wouldn't work. Each individual would be different. So, that's another old wives tale...

That said, I agree that this one is a little guy... Cute too!
