Hi all!

We bought some new ladies to add to our flock and start my daughter’s new flock. Unfortunately, we think we ended up with birds that we didn’t choose. I’m pretty sure our Sapphire Splashes are Sapphire Gems. But we have others we aren’t sure of and I’d like some input on what we have.

Here’s some pics. They’re 3 months old now. Sorry, they weren’t real cooperative for me to get pics. We thought we were getting a Diamond Duchess, two Ameraucana, an Easter Egger, and a Cuckoo Maran. We know we got the Lavender Orpington (one of the two was a cockerel that found a good home Saturday), and two Golden Laced Wyandottes. And two that ended up being the Sapphire Gems.

I’d be most disappointed if the Duchess and the Ameraucanas aren’t what we ended up with since I paid more intending to get those specifically. It seems our FFAH was not monitoring people with the chicks. And the Sapphires were mislabeled, but I can live with that.

There are other FFAH’s elsewhere, doubt we’d go to the same store again. Last time we bought chicks there they were very attentive and not allowing people to just grab them and run around. This time the situation was a bit hectic.

The cockerel was most likely just the risk we all take that they’re correctly sexed. He’s been named “Toothless” by the family and has a lovely flock to protect. His predecessor was sadly killed by a predator just a few days ago while protecting his flock. The timing couldn’t have been better for us to discover a roo in the mix, though catching which one was the roo for sure was a challenge. LOL. Never having had one, I wasn’t 100% on which one he was until I saw him crow. They’ve told us he took to the flock instantly and settled in without a peep. Such a sweet little guy.

Of course, our hens were QUITE irate and attacked my partner when he went to fill their water later. 😂 He came out with a couple of scratches. I think they were all afraid they’d be the next to “disappear into the stew pot”. 😂

Your Sapphire Skys look correct (Sapphire Gems don't have crests.) I'm assuming the last barred chick in the picture is your Diamond Duchess (looks like a Barred Rock, hopefully lays blue eggs? I don't know much about that breed.)
I'm thinking they may have substituted your Cuckoo Marans with a Black Copper Marans (far left bird in 3rd picture). And possibly substituted your Ameraucanas with Gold Laced Wyandottes. The black bird in the top of the 2nd picture *might* be an Easter Egger (wrong comb for an Ameraucana.)
I don't see any boys, though.

Edit: Nevermind about the GLW, I see you did order those. If you didn't order the 2 blue ones with crests, those were probably put in as Easter Eggers. I still don't see any Ameraucanas, though.

I’m hoping the black and white one is the Cuckoo. They didn’t have any Coppers and it didn’t look like any of the chicks in the Duchess brooder. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You could very well be right about the others. Which is what I was afraid of :hmmAnd thanks for pointing out the Sapphires. I hadn’t thought of the crest.

I guess in the long run, it’ll just be wait and see what they all lay. Won’t buy from that store again, I’ll do a different FFAH and check out how they monitor people with the chicks. I’m pretty sure most of the brooders had been messed with by people picking them up and putting the chicks in the wrong places. The biggest disappointment will be that I paid higher for some of the ones I wanted and didn’t get them. The Wyandottes and the Orpingtons (minus the roo now) I was certain of, so that’s good.

The leg color isn't correct to be a Marans for the barred chick. The black one with the feathered feet looks just like a BCM, so they might've had them ? That's too bad the store didn't give you what you paid for! Hopefully you have better luck next time.

Thanks! I appreciate your info. That’s really disappointing. But it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️
