Congratulations

LOL...I'm graduated! Woohoo! She really is a cutie!

Lisa~
Yes it is normal for them to stretch out like that.......I would too if I was in that egg for 21 days. I think it is soooooo cute when they do that.

Nicole~
I too am so glad she settled down, but very bummed that her sista decided not to......I was hoping to set all of those BCM eggs in the big bator under both of them cuz I needed to bator space for those Emu eggs but I have it worked out and lots and lots of eggies are in the bators. LOL you didn't see that carton of future Olive eggers and BCM's on the dining room table.....a person backed out on their egg order so now I'm left with perfectly good eggs and hate to toss them out.

Ha Ha Ha......lol.......they went into a bator last night. I started collecting them the 5th.....I should have one day autioned them and was going to but figured that they would have been to old to incubate once they would have been shipped.....dang it!

To all Marans expert,. I am new to Marans breed All I know is that they lay dark brown eggs (love the color). Can you help me identify this newly hatched baby chicks' future plumage color when they are fully developed? They are 4 days old.

Oh my gosh,
So I have 5 chicks and one thats just hatched and two that I went in to look at the one broke the egg shell and seemed glued shut the others little beak was out but both dead. Now I have two maybe 3 more to go. I hate loosing chicks it just kills me.
But the 5 that are doing go are Crazy little s----s, had to get them out of the LG before they killed the one that just hatched. Ive never had them do that before or at least Ive never seen them do it.

So I need to make a little brooder for my chicks that are due in a couple weeks. I don't like the idea of using the heat lamps. I have a couple with the 250 watt bulbs but they seem like such a fire hazard to me. I used them for two different clutches when I had the chicks in a little cage. Is there safer set up that I can put together for a brooder?

The heat lamp is really as safe as you make it...it's all in the execution. Lots of reptile people have those same heat lamps on constantly, although not typically with a 250W bulb.

Can you get away with using a 100W or 150W bulb? For the number of peeps you're going to have, I'll bet you likely could.
