Marans on ebay

Apparently, everyone here already knows this but Sport is exactly that, a "sport" or abberation of the type. I'm glad the seller actually posted pictures as it makes it quite obvious that they are horribly mixed. The egg color is also miserable. Unfortunately, there are those out there who will not know any better and sadly, it is usually the beginner. That can put a pretty bad taste in their mouth and really turn them off of a breed.

I agree that overall people are more honest and up front here. I have asked many questions of people about their birds and always received a good response.

Yes, some breeders will use a dark legged bird in their group to keep the color up to standard. Then breed it back out of the next generations. It is a disqualification by standard.

Hey maransguy. That is why I originally posted this. So many new folk on here and would hate to see a person here get taken in, and pay good money for garbage.

Did you see that those really nice dark eggs went for $107. for six eggs????????

That's alot of money to pay when you might not get anything out of them.

Thats disgusting but people would pay anything for something. I saw someone put there soul on ebay and sold it for $32.00. I would pay that if they where SQ and have a really good strain

If you think 107 is pricey I would suggest you never get near a major poultry show auction. Have seen one cock bird go over the thousand mark.

Hatching eggs are a risk but less so than buying a mature bird in many ways, unless you where there to actually see the egg the bird lays. Good marans genetics are very hard to come by.

I never been to a pultry show but I do agree with you. I would rather spend over $1,000 on a grown bird that is show quality that someone on an auction site who says SQ eggs when they could be mixed. I trust over 99% of the people on here when I buy my eggs.

yes they sold for that but if you look at the bidder list on all of the eggs you can also see that it is the same person bidding on them with no feedbacks to boot.
