MARANS - proposed standards - - FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES

I can not see any of the pictures for what Marans 'should' look like. The ones that are dq or faults come through fine. IDK if they were removed but I keep this thread marked for reference and was disappointed to not be able to see them. I was trying to look at eye color and rooster division of colors so that I could make some decisions on who to keep for breeding.

Sorry about that... We, people on the black copper marans threads, were going to do the examples of as many good marans traits as possible BUT the BYC neighboorhood changed. When Nifty went to the current system, it was very hard for many of us on dial up internets to get on BYC and totally forget posting pics.

At this point in time, I am not sure if it will ever get done

I suggest that you visit one of the other marans threads and post pics of your birds. We can and will help you identify the positives and negatives of your birds... If you want to fly under the radar, PM me. I can post the pics of your birds for you - anonymously.

This thread seems to have petered out.
.

As the title implies... This thread was never meant to be a place of active conversation. This thread was meant as a source of QUICK information concerning the marans. You can and will find the same information on the other marans threads, BUT you will have to look though thousands of posts to find it.

I'll be seeing you on the active conversation marans threads ...

Has anyone ever thought about posting pics of what the Marans are supposed to look like instead of what there not?
Here is a photo essay of a properly colored Golden Salmon Marans cock.

click on Alvin's picture. Then click on "View as Slideshow".
Once you start the slideshow, you can click on "full screen" in the lower right hand corner to get and even closer look at him.
Alvin was actually eb/e+ but feathered out as a properly colored Golden Salmon e+/e+ cock.
I know he was eb/e+ because I had a picture of him as a baby chick and the eb "brown helmet" was very evident on the top of his head.
Frankly, I think slide shows like this of top birds in all varieties would be great. Especially pics of the outspread wings.

That was a Nice looking Roo! Now can you tell me how you know the eb/e+ I don't know anything about that stuff. I have never heard of a Golden Salmon Marans But I think I have one but he has yellow feet.

If he has yellow legs, there is crossbred blood in him somewhere. Marans of any color never have yellow legs. I know Alvin was eb/e+ because when he was a chick, he had a brown helmet. true e+/e+ chicks have a sharply defined stripe of darker down which goes down the middle of the back up the nape of the neck and over the top of the skull.

eb brown has a plain brown helmet.
Actually, the Golden Salmon Marans is just another name for Black Breasted Red.
