Thank you. You know, he is not from Jesse. I got mine from Bayhorsebonne. They are W. Jeane/R. Presley cross. I don't actually know if her W.Jeane pen is C1 like your birds or C2.
I love the Jesse birds though. You are very lucky to have them. Your birds and eggs are both so nice.

I did until I got home tonight and found she had passed away today. I had suspected this morning when I left that she was eggbound, but I couldnt come back home in time to try to help her, and they frown on taking chickens to work at Child Welfare? Now I only have my rooster, he is still a growing boy, just about 9 or 10 months old, I'd have to look at my records, and he's just now 7 pounds, 4 ounces. I hatched them both. So I will be looking for another hen or two, cause I dont know why, but I like to have a couple of everything?
This is the Black Langshan Rooster, not his best picture, he is really an awesome guy, I highly recommend them if you love to hear roosters crow! What a beautiful, deep voice! Lousy timing, but lovely sound!

He's a beautiful rooster

Thanks, I was really sad to lose her...I went out today and got a pic of him with some friends, they run together, this is just part of the yard, this is the Langshan next to the Cuckoo Marans pen - he is not quite as big, or filled out as the Cuckoo Marans Rooster yet...and he has just torn his comb apart sticking it where it doesnt belong!! He is such a huge goofball, like Baby Huey....

Langshan and Picasso - who follows him everywhere, even though he is a rooster. Picasso is an EE rooster but he loves Langshan, his idol. Oh, and he loves the camera as well. He's always getting in the way of it.

Ok, I'll stick to Marans from now on, thanks for asking about the Langshans though. They are supposed to lay dark eggs as well, but I guess I'll never know now?

Ruth, this guy is so handsome!!! When my DH see's these guys, he cant resist wanting to hug them! Odd thing for a man to wanna hug huge roosters, but its an impulse he has! He sneaks up on em at night, plucks em off the roost, and just hugs em! Your James just looks so huggable!!

Help

I just turned my birds out and I noticed my big rooster just standing by a tree holding one of his eyes shut. His waddles also look a little wilted. I think he is also maybe a little weak.
What should I do?
I just dosed the water with electrolytes. Should I dose with antibiotics just in case he has something?

Updated 6:00 pm. Ok, false alarm, never mind. He's fine (I think). Don't think he's sick. I think he injured his right eye though. But it's above the eye, not in it. I scrubbed their water jug and dosed their water with GQF vitamins and Bio-Chix; it's a B suppliment for stressed birds. Then I sliced a half a honey dew melon and let him eat that. I also went down to the feed store and got some antibiotics and put that in the water as well, just in case. He's all full of himself this evening. I opened the coop door to let him out and he shot out like a rocket.
He worried me today because he was so quiet-when I picked him up-he was so quiet and sweet.

I think from years of working with horses, I just figure when they are a little feisty and full of themselves, they feel good and that's how they should be. I think it's the same way with the roosters. When they are too quiet, I get worried they are sick.
