I was thinking the same thing.

When I hatched my three Cuckoos, I got a dark one, then a light one, then one that was smack-dab in the middle. They turned out to be a perfect trio, although I have no plans to inbreed them.

inbreeding(otherwise called line breeding) is a common practice when breeding animals and is actually preferred if you have a desired line. It can be overdone but it takes many generations. Along with accentuating the good things, it can do the same with the bad. Unless your birds have already been line bred for many, many years you can breed them with no problems...

Hi

I'm new to chicks. Mine are coming the end of April.

I have a question though. Do Maran eggs taste bad or do you just dislike eggs? If this has been asked before, I'm sorry for being redundant.

I'm learning so much from BYC

Hi!

I have a Golden Cuckoo cockerel and pullet who are 5 weeks old, purchased the eggs from bayhorsbonne. The cockerel is, I am guessing, is very light. In fact he appears to be more yellow that anything else. Would someone care to look at the pictures I have of him and give me their opinion? This is my first Golden Cuckoo so I am not sure exactly how he should look at this stage. I would appreciate any input or feedback, thanks so much in advance.

Hello,
I am not a Cuckoo person; I have Black Coppers, but Donna is a very good breeder and her stock is very nice. She breeds for health and size and very good egg laying capability. It's hard to see the color in the pictures with your flash. You might want to take more pics in a week or two with them in outdoor light.

It's so fun watching them grow. Please tell me what you think as far as sex. Does the longer tail opposed a short tail mean anything?

Chef

Edit: Well the pic probly aren't good enough to determine sex so forget that part. lol

My observation of the chicks at that young age was that the ones who carried themselves very upright turned out to be roosters. They walk REALLY tall!
