Here is my brood of 15 hatched January 26th. I have just about all the colors except for Cuckoo.

I have a pair of 3 month old bantam Delawares in the group, so 2 are not Marans. I am going to sell the Delawears one of these days.

Not sure of all the colors I have, but I do have BC and 2 splash, a few wheaten, maybe some are blue wheaten, and 2 blues and some even look kind of partridge to me.

I have six Cuckoo Marans chicks that came straight-run. I am new to chickens and have been spending the past three weeks trying to guess the sexes. I have one that I'm fairly convinced is a young roo. The others I have no clue. One person had pics and told me that his girls still have virtually no comb growth at 11 weeks old. But, I see lots of pics around the web of hens with well-developed combs. Mine all have a little comb growth at this point and I'm wondering if I could have all boys? I really hope I have at least one pullet because I ordered them because I want pretty, dark eggs!

Any thoughts on my pics and the genders, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. I also would love to see other pics of young Cuckoo Marans... I can find lots of pics of newborns and adults, but juvenile pics seem hard to come by.

This is the one I think is a boy. He has a lot of white in his feathering and is by far my biggest chick and the most developed with the longest tail, and is kind of a macho, pain in the butt.

The others all pretty much confuse me. Three have really developed tails and are really feathered out and some have almost no tails and little feathering so far.

Thoughts anyone? Do I have any pullets? I appreciate it!

Well, they are adorable, no matter what! And cuckoos can sprout combs early..even the girls. Some roos get prominent ones pretty young, but dont depend on that!

The nice thing about Cuckoo Marans is that they are color sexable as chicks. The lighter ones are boys, the darkers ones are girls. Can you put them all together and see if there is much of a difference in the shade of their feathering? Some people can tell by the spot on their heads when their itty bitty, I cant though.

Also, alot of times, with mine, the girls were all feathery first, and the boys were still a bit fuzzy, slower to feather, than the girls.

Hope that helps. Your pics look like a flock of girls except for the little rooster on your leg.
