Dude! CLOSE THE INCUBATOR!!! You are freaking me out! I have killed a lot of eggs in the act of hatching by doing just that... Somehow i thought the rules didn't count because it was ME opening the incubator, not some faceless BYC poster, lol. Nope, found out the rules applied to me too. Keep the bator closed until they all hatch.

I expect most of you already know....but if you have to open the hatcher after the eggs have pipped, spray a fine mist of tepid water over the eggs to rapidly replace moisture loss. Otherwise it can take a couple of hours to make up the lost humidity &, in effect, put the chicks trying to hatch into a straight jacket.

I know this is not a marans, but there were some people on here that were talking about making Mille Fleur marans. Someone just gave my friend this roo a few days ago. Not sure what he is. He sorta looks like a MF wyandotte due to his rose comb, but he has five toes and white feet. Also, he has feathers running down the sides of his shanks and outer toes, which would only be a plus for breeding MF marans... Anyhow, better late than never, here are pics as promised. I know and she knows he has scaly let mites. Just showing you how he just showed up. no frills no fancy poses.

If anyone wants to try to start some mille fleur marans with him, she said I could borrow him and use him or have him if I wanted. I could spare a couple of hens for the sake of genetics... I only have black and copper black that lay dark though... Maybe wheaten would work better?
