We have BC from the same genetics.

One of the Roos has started to become mean, he will not make it too much longer.

We do want to use him to breed some chicks as he has some desireable traits. If we have too many more "episodes" it will be off to freezer camp for him.

The girls, while not friendly like some of our birds, are in no way flighty. Roo #2 seems normal, not agressive etc. He will in time take on the position of lead Roo.

I say 'flighty' but really I think the roo is at the bottom of the whole thing. He gets wound up and the hens respond... I think without him they would be calmer... and I am about to get to find out, I think

Here is my 3-week old chick from onthespot's eggs. I know it is a Black Marans, but I am not sure if it's a cockerel or pullet???

Yes, I see boyish good looks there. Lookit those feet!

About the mean roos. I have one. He was a hand tamed spoiled pet as a chick, until he was four months old. He continues to be testy, not horrible but not nice, even if I spray him away with a hose, non-confront him and just go about my business, or grab him, dunk his head in the water bucket and spike him like a football, he is still a turd the next day. The hens only get flighty when I choose door number three. The hens and both the other roos are sweet as pie.

We had that happen 2 years ago. They ordered $800 in calling cards off of ebay. They managed to get into our email and from there requested forgotten/lost user names and passwords from ebay and paypal. I caught it as it was happening but didn't think to change our email password before emailing the ebay seller and when they responded wanting to know what was going on the thief locked us out of our email. I beat them to ebay and paypal and deleated our accounts. Ebay and paypal phone numbers were easy to find but it took a while to find one for yahoo and get my email acct back.

I am currently dealing with ridiculous behavior from my little Mille Fleur roo. He's so CUTE and I'd LOVE to keep him around, but his manners are CRAP! He's not quite big enough for the stew pot...

He spurs my leg when I'm not looking, and then immediately regrets it. It's driving me crazy. He's my only problem child at the moment. Thankfully, my young BC roo is well behaved -- for now, anyway...

My BCM are also the same lines as yours.
When I first got the 23 of them and they feathered out, I hated them all. They were wild and flighty and you could barely get a hand on any of them, even though I'd handled them several times daily since aquiring them. They'd fly all over the place and flog you every chance they got. I hated going in the coop!
When they got bigger, I ended up with 15 roos! THAT was most of the problem. When I got rid of all but one of the roos, the entire bunch has settled down wonderfully.
Now they are not the most friendly of my birds, but I can pick them up and mess with them when I want.
The roo is very quiet with me, is a pill to catch, but once I catch him, he's a gentleman. He's awesome about watching his girls and providing the choicest treats for them before he partakes of them himself.
I make a conscious effort to go in and pick most of them up as much as I can daily, and do take treat bribes so they are getting where they come running when I come out the door.
This breed seems to be like that moreso than the others I have.
My Orpingtons you can't beat off you, they come running and all of them want to be held. They've never been anything like the Marans. The EEs I have in with the Marans are sweet as pie so it's not the atmosphere, it's the breed.
I'd keep trying if I were you to bribe them more into sweetness and especially take more time to catch up the onery roo and tote him around to see if he'll have a change of heart. If not..then yes, pack his suitcase for freezer camp!
Good luck and let us know how he does.
