Thank you!

I got some maran hatching eggs from a breeder here called 'fowlrus". She was so amazing to deal with and what is even funnier is the hatching eggs were dark but not dark like these hens are laying! HAHAHA!

who would have thought!

I am happy!!

That is so interesting! I just looked at mine, and it does look like the one I'm guessing 'pullet' for is darker... I'll have to check next week and see if they follow your color pattern! Thank you for sharing!

I'm so excited. I just got my first olive egg.

My "next" generation of B.C. Marans, including the Blue Copper Marans bred from a blue EE hen and a Black Copper roo have just started laying. The Blue Copper Marans are really pretty and now they are laying beautiful olive eggs. I only wish I could get more of the Blue Coppers but it's so hard to get the one blue/green egg the EE lays because the B.C. Marans hens are jealous of her and eat her egg as soon as she lays it. I haven't been able to get one to put in incubator for months.

Here's one of the offspring that laid the egg today - not a good pic though:

You must find a way to go on, especially with the Marans - figure out what happened, please. It was not your fault, and your efforts with your flock speak for themselves, in the improvement in the breed and in the egg color - your care for your birds is above terrific, and your contributions here on this thread are fabulous - dont give up...it hurts so bad now, losing them, so many at once, it makes no sense.
But dont forget, Ninja, You are a real asset to the Marans Community..and your knowledge and experience are needed as well. I am so sorry for your loss

I hope you find a way to continue. Marans are an awesome breed.

Very well said Tina.

Drom the babies are adorable!

I have some new arrivals myself. I have 12 BC marans eggs under two silkies and a showgirl and I went out this morning and I have 3 babies already. They were set on 7/19 so I was surprised to see them so early.

So Donna has some blue from somewhere.

That's great, and interesting you got the blue! I've tried twice now to get my girls to hatch out their eggs. I don't think the clutch they are sitting on now is going to hatch. I think maybe they are just not quite attentive enough. I must need a Silkie.

Thanks Drom! I am trippin on the blue also! This morning there is 2 blues and 4 black and 6 more eggs. I had one of my BC girls sit on a nest of 4 eggs but they werent as fresh and had been in the fridge and they never developed, but she sat on them the whole time. I felt bad cuz she did all that work and it was my fault nothing came of it

Now the silkies on the otherhand have hatched eggs evrytime I have put eggs under them. VERY good brodies! They were all in the same pen and before I knew it they were all setting on the same nest. So I took advantage and put a dozen BC eggs under them

So yes I would say get a silkie or showgirl or two and you should have no problem.

Kinda wierd not one person has responded with an answer to your comb question

Have you looked at the french site to see examples of their birds?
