I just got this Black Maran, she is 20 weeks old and seems like she is in excellent health. I was wondering how soon the Marans lay? The other maran looks just like her but smaller.

she's very pretty and looks like she's been very well taken care of.
It seems to vary on when they start laying. I have heard some people say their Black Copper hens started laying at 4 1/2 months. Mine didn't lay until over 6 1/2 but they were born late, in July, so they waited through the winter until the days got a little bit longer.
I think 5 months is about average.

Here is my Labor Day harvest. I was picking blackberries and discovered a wild grape vine behind and inside my blackberry bushes that was chock full grapes!! I had no idea it was there and the grape clusters were all ripe. And they are really tasty too!

Boy was it painful getting them out of there though. Those blackberry bushes are brutal

Can I come to your house? I would pick berries all day long if I had to! Very beautiful pictures!! Thats too neat that you found that grape vine though. How kool is that?

Yea! I was so surprised I never noticed the vine before. I think it came up really fast. I don't know what type of variety they are, but they are sweet and delicious. They aren't seedless

But hey they're free! I guess a bird probably carried a seed over to my property or something. The soil here is decomposed granite and I think is a sandy type soil that grapes do well in.

But you don't ever want to pick blackberries. They grow wild everywhere here and the thorns on those bushes are nasty. The berries are yummy but the bushes are awful and I am probably going to remove them before winter. It's just not worth it to tear yourself up trying to pick them

He's still got a ways to grow yet. He is a sweetie though.

Very nice. So, what do you do with your F1 hybrid when you are making Goldens from S. Cuckoos and BCMs. Do you breed back to S. Cuckoo?

Anyone with six to eight week old BCM pullet pics? I've only got one bcm chick and I'm blinking at him/her and wondering what will it be? I'm thinking pullet but I haven't had BCM before. Can get pics tomorrow....
