Onyx is a very cute pullet. She looks a little bewildered in the picture. Like, hey where am I? And why are you holding me up in the air and pointing a little silver box that makes clicking sounds at me?

I have never posted a pic of my Blue Copper Marans, which I got from Whitmore Farms. The roo is turning out to be a big guy. I have a female also but couldn't get a pic of her today. She's no where near as large as he is. They are about 5 months old and the Welsummers that I got along with them have just started laying eggs.

Ruth, I think he looks like a nice BIG boy! I have a couple blues that are about 17 weeks old, but they are not the copper blue. I really like the copper coloring, myself. It looks to me like your boy has nice copper coloring, and not the yellowish that is to be avoided. Is that the right color ... the copper? What is it that we try to avoid ... too much yellow, or too much mahogany? I'm not for sure here. I wish I had more experience ... but, I am learning. LOL Looks like he is giving you the stink eye! Silly bird!

Someday I hope I know enough to help critique. But, for now, I just have to rely on others to critique mine. Someday ....

The French standard states that they have to produce a #4 or better egg a some point in their laying cycle. I don't see where the confusion comes from. Seems simple enough to me. They've been laying #4's and #5's for the last 11 1/2 months and only during this record cold spell have they lightened due to the stress of the cold. Millebantam, I like your quote at the bottom of each of your posts.
Thanks everyone for having my back. As stated, this thread is for learning and sharing information based on our experiences with Marans. Not to debate the French Standard for Marans. I didn't write them.

Thanks so much. That's very kind. I have NO idea what a blue copper should look like. I didn't actually order these. I ordered 5 Black Copper Marans and I got 3 BCM and 2 blues - luckily I ended up with a male and a female. I'm not sure what to do with them now. I guess I could breed them to some Black Coppers as well as each other. Right now, they are hiding out in my carport staying out of the freezing weather. They freerange with everyone else. The female was up in a tree when I tried to take the pics.

how did his Black Copper turn out for you Ya build that big boy a breeding pen and put some black copper ladies in there with him they will make great babies!

I really like that stoutness to your blue roo! That is something lacking in the breed and he can really help out some flocks of birds with his substance and build! good looking bird. how is his personality? I don't care if he is feather legs or not. Feathers is easy to add to any line. size and substance, not so easy.
