For one week I will keep track of all feed.
I can also estimate pretty well, what comes out ... because I have droppings boards under my roosts, that I clean off each morning.

You'll need to weigh food in- each morning and weigh poop expunged each evening.
Make certain you can describe the enclosure in terms of 45 adults (no gender or breed)

Hi Jeremy,
Probably the only breed that some Marans breeders will intentionally cross their birds with is Ameraucanas to produce birds they call olive eggers.

However, if you are interested in seeing what theoretical crossings of birds with different genotypes/phenotypes would result in, you can use the Kip Calculator for that. Go to this link:
http://kippenjungle.nl/Overzicht.htm#kipcalculator

Select the color of your cock and your hen in the drop down boxes in English. Your selected birds should appear underneath the drop down boxes.
Then click on "To Chicken Calculator" on the right of the page.
This will open a second page that has your two birds with the genotypes listed underneath them.
Go to the bottom of the page and click on "Calculate crossing"
This should give you all of your theoretical resulting offspring with pictures showing their phenotypes and lists of their genotypes. It will also give you the percentage of each type.

I posted some more photos of my Splash roo, his father and his brother back a couple of pages, I do not know if you had a chance to see it. You commented about not seeing this mutation in the Marans before, this intrigues me as much as his color does. After re-reading your original post about him it dawned on me that you are talking about the copper that he shows and how it has come out in a pattern. I do see the similarities in reference to the second to last photo. As stated in that post I have not seen a Splash Marans take on a pattern with the coppering, he is almost indentically marked on both sides of his body including his breast. So you think that this may be a throw back? Am I looking at a good quality or bad.

Here is the link..... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3548280#p3548280

Any
and ALL opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kim

Thanks, Resolution, for that statement regarding breeding for egg color by hatching only the best eggs. It makes perfect sense to me. In effect, you'd be culling (pre-culling) based on the very first observable phenotype...egg color. Brilliant.

oh, and the Penedes are the two in the lower left, y'all.

Finaly got some pics of the chickens loaded onto photobucket (computer issue) so here they are... whadda y'all think? Got a pic of eggs from today... hens have been layig since NOV 1. I laid them on the winter rye pasture (bright lime green) and some leaves (dull brown) so you could get an idea... sunny day, out doors, no flash. Compared to color chart they are a 5-6.
