I am curious what everyone thinks about the value of buying humidity control with an Incubator. I've been looking at the table top incubators for some time now and can't decide if I want to spring for one with humidity control. It adds a lot to the price on all of them except the Suro.

How important is it to the hatch rate to have fully automated humidity control? Does it make much of a difference?

I have never had humidity control but I think it would be awesome since humidity is EVERYTHING when hatching either penedesenca or marans... They are fairly difficult to hatch... humidity and the tough eggshell.... If I could afford something like that...I think I would invest. I do monitor my humidity with 2 different devices and maintain it very regularly... an auto would be the cats meow.

We have a hydrometer this time around, so if anything our temps are more accurate. Temp has been pretty steady at 100. Humdity was between 50-75% and then above 75% after lockdown. The mutt chicks weren't bantams. In fact, I'm starting to think they are some kind of mutant cross. I can't believe how much faster they're growing and feathering compared to the Marans.

I guess it is more important with the Marans eggs isn't it? Everyone always says that. I started out thinking I want full auto everything, but I keep reading posts from people using the Brinsea eco 20 and getting great hatch rates and I was thinking do I really need the auto humidity. I could spend a 100-200 bucks less and get the Brinsea. But perhaps I should stick with my original plan.

Good luck with whichever way you jump. If you do a lot of mailed eggs or you are busy and are not home alot... the humidy control automation might be a great feature to have.

I think I would also ask how long the humidity control lasts without having problems. If it was a high quality and didn't break then honestly I would get it.
Just one more thing that you don't have to stress over. If that incubator lasts you 5 years and you use it alot then the extra money should be worth it and possibly pay for itself in chicks developing and hatching better.
I dry incubate and then hatch at 60-70 and I stress those last three days. With weather changes the humidity in my Hova changes drastically at times. Talk about not sleeping-- that last day or two when I know it is the most vital...the humidity drops because all the water added initially is mostly evaporated and I have to add more and keep playing with them.

We have a roll-X with the automatic humidifier.

I think it can hatch anything fertile.

No mess, no fuss, set the humidity and go. Open the bator, and humidity returns in moments.

We got our second hand for a good price. I am not sure I would bite the bullet on new.

It does work very well though.

Those Lyon incubators are very expensive. I hear they are very good, just as you are saying.

Well, thanks everyone for your comments, I guess maybe having the humidity control will be less stressful and a good thing to have with Marans eggs for sure
