Thanks! they are definitely all about the same color. What you can't see in that picture is they have different shell finish types. Some are very glossy and some are more matte finish, and for some reason the glossy ones almost always have a very round fat shape. Those two characteristics seem to go together with my hens eggs for some reason. It's really hard to tell which end is up with the ones that have the glossy finish. I don't know if that is something anyone else has noticed with their eggs or it's just some gene that one of my hens passed to her daughters.

It is two different lines that I have that do the same thing... I really like the shiney ones with the ruby hue to them. Do you have more than one bloodstock??? My Wades are darkest but with a Matte finish... My presley/davis birds have a real round polished look with speckles.... Just love em... The best hens has some of the mossiness to them.

Ah, ok. Yes well my first hens were an F1 generation from Ron Presley/Wade Jeane cross, so yes you must be right. And the glossy ones are definitely more reddish.

It's not that I hate them, no - It's just that I wouldn't really want a barred chicken. I don't want something that looks like a Barred Rock (yes I know they don't, but to 98% of the world they do.

) I'm sure they're lovely birds.

I love my barred rock. She just looks like the ultimate American heritage barn yard chicken. She is solid and hardy and has beautiful confirmation and a bright red, perfectly formed comb. She lays a big round beige egg almost every day. I named her Velvet because when she was about 4 weeks her feathers looked like black velvet with white chalk marks on them.

Just think American heritage breed and picture them in front of a big red and white barn with a grambrel roof and a grain silo. Then maybe you can appreciate the look of them

It must be the Presley influence then.... Any others care to chime in on this???? Round ruby glossies??? What line are yours? The birds tend toward a mossiness... (it's all about the eggies for me)

Round ruby glossies here........all Bev Davis birds, BUT...........I do have one BCM gal and her egg is not quite as glossy almost matte but not and her egg is less round, oh and she is the only one that deposits speckles on her egg which I adore.
