I didn't think I was starting anything ... just making a mental note on what someone was saying ... and replying with what I thought ... no names ... I guess If I had gotten better eggs ... better hatch and better chicks ... maybe I'd be a little more understanding ... would any of you FBCM owners that sale their eggs like to comment if they were to send $200 to someone ... and got the picture below ... with only 4 chicks ... and 2 without feathers on their toe ... would they not want to look and see if anyone else was having any problems? Tap tap tap ... Sorry ... Talk about drama ... I'm so very happy with the other 2 that I have chicks from ... Really ... not looking to make any kind of trouble ... I was just making note ... maybe I should have just PM that person instead of giving 2 initials?

What I have learned? That you can't just jump into something fast without looking into all your options ... would I have done it again ... YES ... but to get very light ... weird shaped eggs ... with poop on them... I'll drive my car to pick up chicks and eggs or I just wont buy them ... UNLESS ... I can see that others have had nothing but good things to say ... This time next year ... I'll have the two breeds I want in my backyard ... lol ... and I'm going to get them from a breeder that is great ... and willing to work with their customers ... write them ... talk to them on the phone ... teach them! Yep ... that's what I'm going to do ... AND ...I'll be the change I'd like to see!

Well, your first mistake was spending $200 on 18 eggs. Yeowza! I wouldn't pay that much for eggs from ANYONE. And that includes officers in ANY poultry club. And I can say that especially because I'm a vice president in the Marans Chicken Club USA.

I notice that you are just the other side of the mountains from Niota TN. If you want to deal with somebody close, you should think about contacting Buddy Henry with Backwoods Poultry. He took over from Ron Presley (Cottage Hill). I've never seen his black coppers, but I have heard good things about them. I HAVE seen his wheatens, and they are nice birds (not 100% feather legged, but large and attractive with good egg color).

I forget whether Buddy is right in Niota, but he's in that area anyway. He's got a web site -- drop him a line!

I'm sure that any I can't use ... I could put in the pen with my other girls that are being watched over by an Americana roo! get me some olive eggs?

Thank you ... for your response ... I just was taken back by the PM message I was sent ... now where is the link to that club?

WoW, you got 4 to hatch? Did it, done it last spring. Bought some that were Bev Davis LINES, had them shipped over those big mountains out west, to have nothing hatch on a dozen eggs, wrote to the breeder, and agreed to send me another half dozen for shipping only. Got one to hatch, it promptly commited suicide and found a way to kill itself in it's water feeder despite the Pietersite beads I had in it. Total loss well over $200. I do feel what your going thru. Did much better just buying live chicks. Ordered 20, got 19 alive. And my two best girls are from that transaction.

ya ... I did better ... when I drove to GA for 3 baby's ... then I had some live chicks sent to me from LA ... now those are some pretty chicks ... but that is all in the past ... and now I'm just trying to get as much info I can ... so when they are 4 months old ... I'll know which ones to keep ... and which ones got to go! sniff sniff ... ok maybe not go ... just moved!

hey drom , hows the incubator incubating ? mine is boring ,,,, just set it and forget it .i havent opened the lid much and with the automatic water thing there is no reason to open it . In my 6 or 7 hatches i have done of marans i never bothered to candle eggs .... it must take some crazy stuff for a egg to explode . hope your new incubator is working well , also what i did in mine to hold 20 eggs is that i stand the eggs up so i can get more in....that might help get more in .

I purchased a dozen Marans chicks, hatched Sept 1, 2009. I got a, "variety pack," containing a couple splash, some blues, and a few BCM. These are a couple of the blues. Please tell me what you think of these guys. Note that the one has some copper coming in on his hackles. Does that mean leakage or what?
