Thanks Amazondoc!

Here's something I thought I knew and now I am questioning myself.

I thought that if a person where...let's say, trying to make Blue Coppers. Black Copper x Splash will produce Blue Coppers but if the Splash used was a pure blue splash (coming from pure Black, Blue and Splash parents.......no copper) that the offspring would be crossbreds, still a pure Marans, but a mix, not a Blue Copper or a blue.

Am I waaaaaaay off base here?

You want to breed black copper x splash COPPER, not black copper x plain splash.

That goes back to what I said about only breeding birds together that have the same E allele. Breed ER to ER (black copper x splash copper). DON'T breed ER to E (black copper x plain splash), unless you want to do some work down the line to straighten the alleles back out.

It can be really hard to tell visually whether a splash bird is "plain" splash (E), or splash copper (ER), or splash birchen (ER). So it gets important to know the pedigree of that bird. Be very wary of breeding a splash bird to anything if you don't know who its parents were!

Thank you! That is what I was thinking and couldn't explain, I don't have the ability to explain things the way that they should be explained and I was asked a question and couldn't come up with a way to explain it where I won't confuse people. I am not a very good teacher, I'm the kind of person that must do it and not explain it. ARGH!

Thanks again!

Well I'm on Day 6 now and I just weighed the eggies again...

24 BC Marans: -3.4%
7 Banty Auracanas: -3.8%
4 OEGB and MGB: -3.9%

the last three are still going crazy...

Olive Egger: -4.6%
Penedesenca: -5.3%
Marandaise mix: -7.1%

I'm not going to get overly concerned about the last three, but I'm pretty close to right on track with the ones that really count, the BCMs and the Araucanas. Humidity has been mostly at 30-35%. I'll try to be a little bit more aggressive with letting the humidity drop. I keep saying that...

Hey dread do you weigh the eggs every day?

Thought I saw a thread on this method but I can't seem to find it now.

Anyone brilliant with spreadsheets able to make a master to plug in the days and weight to calculate target?

I just started eggs about a week ago so I guess I can't play this round.

I weight them every few days. I can't imagine incubating without weighing, especially since I've moved around a bit and what worked in one place (humidity-wise) is no good for another.

I could whip out a spreadsheet easily enough, I just ain't yet.

I was wondering what people hope to achieve weighing eggs . eggs vary in size and shape so much how could it apply to anyone else and their eggs won’t you ruin the hatch opening the bater every 3 days ?i would think the eggs would go threw a lot of stress and it would mess the hatch rate …. I was just wondering . I understand candling and why people do that but would you thorw the egg out if it was a different weight or not in the range of weight. Just wondering
