I just set 55 of my cuckoo marans eggs in the bater. That's the only type of eggs i set,so I'm hoping to have a good hatch in 3 weeks

just set another 24 wheaten marans eggs! on the 18th but what i want to see is the egg color the new bornes will lay from the cross of lines but that takes 11 months or so with them .....errr.... i only have 25 chicken generations left in me if i make it to 75 years old .lol . life is short whan put into chicken years!
so the big question is how many chicken years (generations ) do u have left in life ?
hope im not bumbing you out and if the girls dont want to answer i understand !

Well if I understand your math, I'm older than you....but all the birds on this farm have laid by 24 weeks....my Marans between 17 and 20 weeks,
so am I younger than you in chicken years?

I have some bragging rights.... Pix to follow later.. (too dark).... My little broodies that share the setting chores just hatched two babies out of three eggies.. They have one more to go and then I will get pix of the new family. I should have know.. my nice rooster attacked me when I tried to go into the chicken house... (he was being a bouncer)... ha ha... He had never tried that before so I am guessing he is being the Big Daddy on the block...

Well, I don't know how many chicken generations or years I have left in me ... but I am 56 human years old.

Yes, James Bond and Martha Stewart both only eat Marans eggs, I have read.

geebs ..... YES, get pictures! How exciting! Sounds like a good Daddy roo you have there!

Umm, to my understanding - Martha Stewart only recently found out about Marans, and uses Cuckoos. (which makes me wonder if she got them from hatchery stock

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I hate to be redundant, but to save me from reading some 600 previous posts, how is the temperment of your Marans?? My RIR roo (that will be departing shortly...) is getting pretty aggressive, and is even trying to beat me to the open door of the run when I go out to feed the flock. The hens are pretty docile, but the roos!....

I picked up a pair of 5 day old Black Jersey Giant pullets today, and they are considerably more laid back than any of our previous flock...it's been fascinating to watch the individual personalities develop,.,

I LOVE my Jersey Giants! Can't go wrong with those guys!

I also had bad luck with a couple RIR roos. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but my aggressive RIR roos were hatchery stock. I am now hatching some RIR breeder stock, and hope they will be friendlier!

Marans .... I have quite a few Marans roosters right now.All of them are sweet and docile. I have not had a problem with aggression from the Marans at all.
