If you can find out information on the easier things to accomplish... can you find out more about some of the more complicted aspects of breeding this faulted bird.. I didn't realize there was so much involved in the leg feathering genetics... I have always regarded it as a "easily accomplished" as for me in my pens it has bred forward quite readily... I wasn't aware of it's complexity til I tried to comprehend your article..

I hope my comment is better understood here as my previous post. Fabulous information!!!.. Please share more of your articles that you find.

How mature?
I do not have any boys that are older than 3 months that I am letting go of. I have a young Copper Splash and I believe I hatched him out in January, he would be the oldest. I do have a few other younger boys but they are under 3 mos. A person is more than welcome to come and take a look. Let me know and I will put off sending them to a freezer.

Wow... your easter bunny is NNNNNIIICE Pinkchick. I love those lavender eggs... I have a hen that laid one for a while and now they are coming out dark... I find that part fascinating... I am thinking that thier protective layer is more substantial... or something any ideas?

My splash is still laying those lav colored ones. Yes the coating on them is very thick, but you can see the color underneath some of the scratches she puts in them rolling them around. I wonder if that thick coating had anything to do with only 3 of them hatching in the last batch.

No joke on the monsoon thing... I am having my babies outfitted for water wing and life preservers... I have to wear a wetsuit just to swim to the coup....

If this keeps up my OHSET (Oregon High School Equestrian Team) will have to do syncronized swimming instead of drill... ha ha \\


I hope there is a break in it today... I don't know how much more of this liquid sunshine our chickies can put up with... poor babies.

A thought for you hatching those.. I know this sounds crazy but separate them and hatch them apart from the rest... I have one hen who eggs are very difficult to hatch also. I am trying it this round... I went and bought dividers for my Hove 1588 so I can separate in the same hatcher but I think in this instance I would separate on day 18 and put them in a hatcher away from everyone else.

I think the only showers we get in Washington State are in July....to me all the rest is monsoons. Gotta love the Pac West.
