Getting my first really nice BC marans this week. They are from the Davis and Jean lines. Should be really nice birds, when they grow up. Right now they are only chicks. Very excited about this and looking forward to having those beautiful birds and dark eggs.

Here are the pictures of my new chicks. What do you guys think they are? I bought 11 2 1/2 week olds. The lady who hatched them said they got mixed up durning haching and said they could be any of the following..pure bred Heritage wheaten, black copper, cuckoo and golden cuckoo marans. Also a few brown eggers and olive eggers. I also got two silkie crosses and one pure bred white silkie. I would love your opinions. These are my first chicks/chickens! :)

Also...how much do I need to feed these guys? Do I free feed or do I just add feed a couple times a day? Some of them have naked chests...why would that happen? I want the best for these guys!!!

Thanks

Mother to a beautiful 3 year old girl, two aussies, 4 barn cats, one horse, one mini horse, 11 chicks and a great husband!

I'm confused by the yellow feet. Marans have pink/whitish feet. I'm not sure they are pure breds. Especially the 1st one, very yellow feet & especially yellow beak. Seems wrong.

Free choice chick feed along with free choice water.

They sometimes do appear to have naked spots on their chests as they are feathering out; are they sequestered to the cage pictured? If so, that's not quite enough room for them, and they will likely begin feather picking. Also, be VERY careful using hay if that's what you have them on - they often eat it and their crops can become impacted (several members on here have had that issue, as have I on one occasion). THe hay gets all balled up in their crops & cannot pass.

THey appear to be in good health! Enjoy your babies!

Anyone wanna help me out?

A while back I posted that I purchase (11) day-old baby chicks from a CA breeder and almost all of them looked like roos. They are almost 6 weeks old and many of them have large pink combs but these 2 look a little suspicious.

To me they have girly faces and their combs lack color. Could these be pullets?

Here is that most of the others look like:

I'm still waiting for a crow or an egg before I make any decisions but a glimmer of hope would make my day
