Don't be sorry, thanx for the help. If it's a roo he is going regardless of what kind!

Hey! I got one of those!!!!!!!!!!

He was given to me free when I got 7 Black Coppers, they called him a Blue Copper Marans......but I always knew somethin was off coz she had a puffy face.....
Well she turned into a HE, and he's blue with a puffy face, funky comb, and feathered legs!!!!!!! I assume EE x Marans cross, and he's beautiful!!!!!! But I'm not keeping a mutt rooster.

See the similarity??

I think I would definetly send a photo to the breeder and ask for an explaination... and then by all means.. share the information with us!!!

go back in your own posts to the month.. You may have announced where you were getting eggs from if you can't find records... and ... GOOD LUCK!!!\\

If I sent someone something like that... boy I would definetly want to know and have a chance to fix it. That is a mess in the gene pool for sure!!! Especially if someone doesn't know... they can continue the cycle.. this gives him a chance to contact his clients and let them know...

I think at this point that I had something like this show up... I wouldn't trust any of the chicks/hens/roosters from the person that I recieved that bird from. The genetic mixup can be quite a catastrophic mistake. I would probably want a do over. Because olive eggers can look so much like a regular marans... you stand to have an error in your yard using the birds from the breeder that sent you both the Olive Egger... unless they called it an olive egger. If that is the case it would have been hatched along side your marans and would be a reasonable explaination... It was an extra goodie or something... but to have it called a marans... that's an ooops. I hope you guys get it sorted. out... Good luck on it... Keep us posted.

I got 'em as day olds, on March 13th and we met locally. He did give me some eggs though for the color, said I could hatch them if I wanted to. They were nice and dark, but dunno what Puffy Cheeks actually hatched from. I ate them coz my bator was full, they were a lot paler yellow yolks than mine - that much I remember.
I didn't worry a whole lot about it since he was free, and I've never had EE's before but I did suspect something was up with the puffy cheeks. I figured if it was a hen I'd just put her in the laying flock coz I wasn't interested in breeding blues anyway.

ETA: as you say, if the "Marans" roos that I have could actually be olive eggers.......there goes my whole breeding plan!!!

Don't tell DH, he was upset about the extra birds till I promised these were actually for breeding purposes!! *sigh*
I've got half a mind to go wring their little necks right no coz I'm "up to here" with roosters this spring!!!!
