I'm so old I Remember when:

Talk about creepy. These dolls are the reason why I hated all dolls.
I have a sizeable collection, myself. I LOVE my dolls, creepy or not. Back when I had one less child than bedrooms, my guest room was also my doll room - and it was well populated. I had out-of-town family refuse to sleep in there again unless I "did something" about those eyes staring back all night. On their next visit, all the dolls sported paper bags over their heads. As a parting gift, my cousin drew eyes on all the bags. Every. Single. One. It was glorious!

That's terrible. I had to read Where the Red Fern Grows in eighth grade and I still didn't like it.
You ought to see some of today's assigned reading. The Red Canoe puts them ALL to shame. There are better ways to teach kids moral values and taking responsibility for poor decisions. It's truly horrific!

Is THAT what we were supposed to learn?

For that particular book, yes. I genuinely hope you didn't read it. It's well written and thought-provoking, but definitely not middle-school level, IMO. But, who am I to question the wisdom of those who guide our amazing education system? I'm just a parent who would prefer my children not be traumatized by the killing of a three-year old by stupid bullies.

Thanks, no, I don't read or watch violence or gore. I'm bipolar and it affects me very strongly, makes me sick. Sometimes cannot watch the news!

Traumatizing. Red Badge of Courage, The Pearl, The Good Earth. No wonder I'm a basket case, lol.
Red Badge of Courage, too! I forgot that one.

Being educated in California we had to read a LOT of Steinbeck. My gosh that guy was depressed and his writing was depressing. Too much for kids, in my opinion.
