Illia - YIPPEE on that first crow! I just love when mine begin to crow! SO darn cute at first!!

Halo, I'm totally, 100% with you on NOT HELPING eggs to hatch. If you do, you are promoting a weak hatching gene, if you will. It's very hard to watch them pip and die, or even begin to zip & then not finish & die. BUT - I strongly believe that if you allow nature to take its course in this regard, to just let them hatch on their own (or not) is the very best thing. JMO!!

I posted a pic of this Roo a month ago he was at 7 months old,,

My Dad gave me some eggs for me to hatch, but I have no idea what some are going to look like. These eggs came from French Blue Splash hens and Blue Copper hens that were bred to a French Blue Splash Roo. I know the Splashes will be splashes, but what about the splash over the blue copper. He is moving his Blue Copper hens over with his Black Coppers now.

Just some more food for thought.

At what point in time do you stop relying on names from generations back and start using current breeders? How long will people use Wade Jeane, Bev Davis, others (the names escape me for the moment). Once you get 2 or 3 generations removed from the birds or eggs that were purchased from a breeder, you simply can't rely on their names anymore. This is a real stickler with me, because I can see this going on for years, using the same breeders names, when there is no way that the birds currently represented should have those names attached to them. I have only see this done with Marans.

I find this very misleading, and falsely advertising, especially with how many generations removed the current birds actually are from breeders' names being used.

Well, there really is a difference in those lines. If you have some of each, you can actually see it. If the lines are never crossed, then they remain, from "the Wade Jeane line," etc. When you cross lines you tend to lose egg color, I have read.
