Yeah!! One of my Blue Coppers, laid her first egg today. It is tiny lol. I suppose they will get larger as she gets older.

It looks, from the overall copper feathering on the male, that they are a mixture of both. .
Iif the wing triangle is not beige, he could still be part Wheaten. That is the problem with one of the lines of black coppers in the USA.I f It has Wheaten in it, sometimes chicks are produced Wheaten instead of black copper.

If you just want the dark eggs, it doesn't really matter.

Been a good day today. I went out first thing to check on my chickens and the live trap and whoopie, I had a big ol coon in the trap and he was not happy. He won't be eating anymore chicken dinners. I think I will keep the traps out for a few days to see if any more come around. Also, I called a friend that raises blue splash marans and he had some that were just hatching out. Got 8 of those today, so I will be starting over on them, with one less varmit.

Hi all. I posted a few weeks ago asking what I have and some people asked me to post updates. I had purchased some Golden Cuckoo Maran eggs and along with those, I also received GCM/FBCM crosses, with FBCM hens in the same pen as some GC roo's. They are 5 wks old now and here are the updated photos.

I only had one PURE Golden Cuckoo egg hatch, and it looks like it is a regular cuckoo cockeral which was very disappointing although I hear it does happen with this variety. He is on the right in this photo:

Then I had two "mixed eggs" (GCM roo/FBCM hens). At first I thought I had a black hen, but now I am thinking she is cuckoo? She is on the left in the photo above. What do you think.....not sure with her. Here is another photo of her:

The last guy was my brown "mixed" chick. He is definently a cockeral and still very brown with cuckoo patterning. Do you think he will even resemble a Golden Cuckoo roo when he grows up, or just be a brown cuckoo? Here's some photo's of him:

Appreciate everyone's thoughts. I've posted a link to one of my posts from a few weeks ago with the younger photo's in case anyone wanted to see them.

If cuckoos follow the same as barring then you could use the brown barred cock with leg bars for breeding if he turns out "impure" with out the leg bars he would be a cull as would the solid black pullets. It's quite a project adding color to a Cuckoo female with many culls better to use Golden Cuckoos and when someone is adding color it takes 4 generations of culling and so you should be told where they are at with their "project" unless you just want mutts.
