Thanks for the welcome!! I will try to get some pics tonight so you can see. I have a few little bantys that are laying white eggs, I have light blue eggs and today my Maran's eggs. The Marans have their own section of the barn--ther rest have to share.

I still cant believe they are laying this late in November. Maybe that means it will be an easy winter! How is that for positive thinking?? I live in Southwestern Iowa. About 40 miles east of Omaha. Thanks again!! (Ive been around a while, but usually I lurk!)

Hi Karenleaf,
I do have Mandarins and they are good little layers. I read someone on here said they only lay 1-10 eggs a year. Dont tell mine that! Anyway, I will have ducklings and eggs if you want them. I will post a pic in just a minute. I am trying to figure out how to get my egg pics on! I am technically challenged and my kids are grown and moved out! I havent any helpers anymore!

this is from the Ameraucana site
"There has been a definite relationship established between the “Pea Comb” gene and the “Blue Egg” gene. Both these genes have been shown to be carried on the same chromosome, and thus closely related."

From what I understand the chicken can have a pea comb and carry only one copy of the blue gene, which when bred to another the same you can get a bird that lays brown eggs

If the birds have a rose comb then they are definitely not true araucana, hatcheries don't sell true araucana. I will add that I do have araucana with tails. It is possible to get a tailed/clean faced araucana, I hatched plenty. It actually took me 6 batches from 5 breeders to get 2 tufted/rumpless chicks. But as I said, hatcheries don't have true araucana.
Also there is no such thing as an americauna, they are EE's, although most are very pretty. A true ameraucana has a pea comb.

Mothergoose your eggs are beauitful. Look like you are getting small colors as I only my brown eggs are coming from my RIR and Orphingtons.
And the Mandarins

Yes you betcha I am very interested have they had many hatches? Would you be willing to ship eggs or would you rather ship ducklings ? I really need to wait till closer to spring so we can extend the run area and get another shed together. But I would really love some Mandarins.

How far are you from Ottumwa? or Centerville Iowa? I might just be able to met with you somewhere in between your place and there.

Thanks

I can ship eggs, but they are really, really hard to hatch in an incubator. I will have ducklings, too. If you join my website as a member, I will send out announcements when I have different things available. It makes it easier for me to remember who wanted what! I think those towns are across the state from me, but I can meet you somewhere. A road trip can be fun! Thanks for the interest! Oh yeah--I have white Mandies, too. Their pictures are on the website and in the photoalbum on the website, too. Thanks!
