I'll happily swap true araucanas with you all in trade for some marans eggs. I have several good young pullets I look forward to getting eggs from. I have produced some nice chicks from one pair so far, the fertility is pretty good, hatch rate 50%. Got a few in the incubator now.

Krista, where in Maine are you? If I hadn't had so much flood damage here I was planning a road trip that way this fall, will have to wait until next year now. I want to see Bar Harbor and Acadia!

I have a list for my Cuckoo Marans until mid October, but I would LOVE to try some more Araucana after I'm done with these Araucana, if I get any live ones! I am going to have Black Copper Marans from decent lines in the Spring (You can learn all about my lines and stuff on my personal pages)....Plus I am on Bev Davis's waiting list for her top notch Marans! I am so excited about that!

All of this depends on my security issues! I will not continue to keep my flock if I cannot keep them safe. The last head count from last Spring to now is 43! I cannot take anymore, it is getting more personal all the time. (Some of these were itty bitty mix chicks that just disappeared, a couple actually fell in the water tub also.)

This week I am getting nice Cuckoo Marans eggs, I dont know if I'll get an egg today though?

I am in southern maine, near portland. I am still trying to get the elusive tufted, rumpless black araucana. I have a nice lav project bird I got from Harry (shaffer) that I am going to use with my blacks, but they are only rumpless, still need tufted

. I won't have any eggs until next year from my araucana or my marans, my bc just went into the hatcher today and I have 4 more going into the hatcher tomorrow

Tina, we could make a list of the people not on Bev's list and it would probably be shorter

Poor woman has a list 20 pages long

I actually got a halfway decent shot of one of the cockerels today, miracle of miracles:

I kind of like this one--he seems nice and moderate, well-balanced, and not overdone either way as far as color goes.

Man, he is nice! I just took this photo this morning of my most "overdone" colorwise Copper Black Marans roo. He was such a gangly, ugly chick, and I know his color is all wrong, but he is my favorite.

What, Ninja, no leaping and dodging? What a nice pic too! He does seem stately. I am still in the watching stage with my one roo. Of all that hatched I got the one BC rooster, so I dont have any to chose from, although Carla has offered me the pick of the rest of the BC roos she is selling, and they are his brothers, if I need more than one. I may take her up on that.

are there any marans with muffs? LOL just kidding. I bought this pullet yesterday. The lady said she lays a darker egg. I just couldn't resist the face. Her legs are pink with grey up the fronts, no hint of green or yellow. I don't know what she is, a barred/ee crosss, any marans in there, or possibly an olive egger that lost the green gene... Anhow, she's cute! Check her out!

Onthespot, she is a cutie, she has some great points, doesnt she, with that cuckoo/barring and her cheek tufts! What color is the egg, besides dark, like dark brown, or dark greenish? Absolutely a neat bird! Can you post her egg too???
Thanks so much, wish I knew that mix, she's neat.
