Marans Thread for Posting Pics of Your Eggs, Chicks and Chickens

Here are Monroe and Elizabeth - our Marans chicks. (Officially they are James Monroe and his wife, Elizabeth Kortright Monroe).

They will be 13 weeks old on Friday. These pics are their official 12 weeks old pics... I've posted 2 of Monroe.

Here is Polk, our Marans-Cochin mix chick. Of the five chicks in this year's flock addition, Polk seems to be trying for the alpha roo spot. Officially he is James K. Polk, who was known as "the dark horse".

Does anyone have any Golden Cuckoo Marans? I am supposed to be getting some eggs in a couple of weeks and was curious if anyone else had any.

And before anyone asks I have no idea if they are feather legged. I just think they are pretty

Yeah, I sure do miss being able to hang out and read the BYC forums. I started back to teaching at the end of Aug. and my mom found out she has breast cancer and that was the end of free time.

I don't know why they took so long to start laying but I'm so happy they did. I still haven't figured out if all of them are laying or just a couple. We get an egg a day so far. It's so much fun going out and finding them.

I hope to have more time again. It was so much fun reading through this thread and looking at everyone's pics. Boy, and I thought my eggs were dark. So many of you out there have great looking Marans eggs. Keep posting everyone!!!

Does anyone have any pics of black coppers around 5 weeks old? A guy is trying to sell me some chicks as black coppers, but they look more just black.

I think these were about 6 weeks old here, I really cant remember. The all black one is NOT a BC Maran, and I have other chicks too.....If you look closely you can see the copper colors in some of the wings, but not all have that, others will tell you, sometimes the hens only have their neck/collar copper and it isnt pronounced until they're older and have their real feathers. Some people also prefer feather legged BC Marans over Clean Legged. I happen to have the Clean Legged kind myself. I do like the feather legs though! Good luck on your choice....Depending on what the price is, and if the person is willing to tell you the birds background (I dont think you should consider purchasing any Marans if you plan to breed and dont know where they originated from)...you might just get them just because!! But be careful, dont get ripped off!
