Mine are seriously as skittish as all get-out. We're getting ready to separate them and put them in their own enclosure for a while, and I'm kinda hoping that will help.

I saw some eggs at someone's house that they said they got from her and they looked just like the ones that Solsken Farms posted. I told her to chuck them over the fence and let the coyotes have them. She is a jewel, for sure.

Looking at the feedback, she says "These things were disclosed to you." If that were the case, why would she have been willing to refund your money? It just sounds fishy.

Thanks for the warning!

She advertised them as not as dark as their copper blacks, but they were working to improve color. The eggs would need to be a 4 on the scale to be considered a Marans. These are not Marans. And who needs the scale with these eggs? I used my redstar eggs. I mean if they are lighter than them.....HELLO????????????

Ninja, my babies are still in the house and KICKING UP POO DUST! My poor dh. I can't put them out for a few more weeks because I live in the tundra.

I thought about buying from this person my self. But the price was always so high I never did it. Then I found this place and know I can get better eggs and chicks for much less. I just have to wait till spring.

I totally agree--that falls into the realm of "item not as described," because like you say, they aren't even "really" Marans eggs, are they? Good for you for standing up for yourself and getting your money back.

My CB Marans are so wild, they don't even come to me for TREATS. It's unreal. When all the other chickens run TOWARD me, the CBs run the other way!

Mine are in this homemade brooder inside in our coat room and they act like I am some kind of monster everytime I come near to change their water and food. I mean I have done it like 60 times already. You'd think they'd start to realize I am not the boogie man. They all run to the corner and jump on each other. The mongrels.

I still love 'em.

Hmph. All this talk about these wild and high strung birds, they sound so rough and tough...and ya'll are pickin on me about not likin the taste of eggs? So I go out to the yard to ask my little Weenie Black Copper Rooster to muster up his most threatening evil eye for you, and this is what I get?? He cuddled up for a nap, he even had straw stuck on his the side of his beak (Eating too much melon today and I forgot to wipe his face.) Pathetic.

Hey all --

I've finally put up pics of the Marans at the Green River Poultry Club show. The show took place last weekend, in Brownsville, KY.

As you may already know, there were 38 Marans entered in the show. 28 were actually shown. So far as we know, this was the largest Marans entry at any APA show to date.

There were a lot of beautiful birds there. A lovely blue wheaten hen took best of breed. You can see her pics, and pics of most of the other birds (including an egg that was laid during the show!), in an album at the Marans Chicken Club site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Marans_Chicken_Club/photos/album/163858579/pic/list

I'm sure I've gotten some of the labels wrong on the pictures. Unfortunately I didn't take written notes, and right now I'm full of cold meds -- so my brain cells aren't quite up to snuff! If anyone sees pics that they know are mislabeled, please let me know and I'll correct them.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this show. Remember, this is just the *beginning* of all the steps we have to go through in order to gain APA recognition for the Marans breed. We need a LOT more people to show their Marans in future shows. Start planning NOW for the next show in your area! And if you do enter birds in a show, please remember that the APA requires us to fill out special paperwork in order for the show to count towards APA recognition.

This is a great start. Now get out there and show YOUR birds!
